THE NEW YORK TIMES: A Slow Renovation Ends With a ‘Cozy Yet Luxe’ Basement

When the interior designer Mandy Cheng renovated her new house in Los Angeles, she didn’t rush. She proceeded gradually, choosing furniture, finishes and accessories she loved over time.
“When we bought the house in 2022, we renovated it to the bare bones that were acceptable to live in,” said Cheng, who shares the home with her husband, Rory Reynolds, 42, an architect.
Upon moving in a few months later, some rooms were empty. “We didn’t even have a kitchen,” she said. But she worked on one room at a time, being thoughtful about every piece of furniture, artwork and accessory she added.
